The Norwalk boys wrestlers compete in regional duals tonight while the Warrior basketball teams host Dallas Center-Grimes in a much-anticipated girl-boy doubleheader.
The Norwalk wrestling team will be at Southeast Polk High School for one of eight regional dual tournaments in Class 3A. The 17th-ranked Warriors, who are 13-9 on the season, will wrestle No. 16 Iowa City High at 6:00 p.m. The winner faces a tough challenge in the championship round, taking on top-ranked Southeast Polk for a spot in Saturday’s State Dual Tournament at Coralville’s Xtream Arena.
At the NPECC in Norwalk, the Warrior basketball teams will host DC-G, starting with the girls game at 6:15. The Norwalk girls are ranked eighth in Class 4A at 13-3 overall and enter the night third in the Little Hawkeye Conference standings at 5-2. The fourth-ranked Mustangs are also 13-3 overall and lead the LHC with a 7-0 record. DC-G won the first meeting between the teams on December 21, outscoring the Warriors 27-2 in the fourth quarter to prevail 55-20.
In the boys game at 7:45, Norwalk will be shooting for a sweep of DC-G after outlasting the Mustangs 55-52 earlier this season. The Warriors, who moved into this week’s Class 4A state rankings at No. 10, lead the Little Hawkeye with a 7-0 record and stand 11-2 overall. Dallas Center-Grimes is 6-1 in league play and 11-3 overall.
Both games can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA and KNIA3, with Mike Oeffner and Steve Wermerskirchen on the call. Pregame coverage will begin shortly after 6:00 p.m.
