In their first of four games this week, the Class 2A #7 Pella Christian boys basketball team picked up a 58-47 victory on the road at West Branch Monday night.
The contest was tight throughout the night, with neither the Eagles or Bears leading by more than six points until the final minute of the game. Pella Christian held narrow leads of 15-13 at the end of the first quarter and 27-26 at halftime. West Branch scored the first four points of the third quarter and held the lead for much of the period, but Dane Geetings’ buzzer-beating three-pointer knotted the score at 37-37 heading into the final eight minutes of play. The Eagles grabbed the advantage midway through the final quarter and didn’t look back as they pulled away for the 11-point win. Tysen De Vries led all scorers in the contest with 19 points, while Dane Geetings and Kaden Kruid added 17 and 11 points to help Pella Christian improve to 12-4 overall.
The Eagle boys rejoin the girls squad for a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader at Newton tonight that can be heard live on KRLS2 stream, beginning with pregame coverage at 6 pm.
