Ulysses Patterson of the Simpson College men’s track and field team was named American Rivers Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, as announced on Monday afternoon.
Patterson picks up his first career weekly honor after breaking the school record in the heptathlon last week at the Dutch Winter Multi.

Patterson scored 4,835 points in the two-day event to not only win the competition, but also break Isaac Frazier’s previous record of 4,745 points set in 2017. Patterson’s mark currently puts him 10th across all Division III competitors.

The Clinton, Iowa native set two career-bests in individual events, running a 7.28 in the 60 meters and recording a throw of 11.89 meters in the shot put. Additionally, Patterson won the long jump with a mark of 6.69 meters and came .01 meters away from tying his career best in the high jump (1.84 meters). Patterson also finished in the top four in six of the seven total events.
