The Marion County Treasurer’s office will be sending out forms to apply for the elderly and disabled tax credit in the month of February.
The Iowa Legislature allows a property tax credit based on total household income for residents of Iowa, aged 65 and older, or age 18 and older and totally disabled. The household income is based on last year and the total for 2023 must be less than $25,328. The income requirements change annually and claimants can receive a maximum tax credit up to $1000. To file for this credit you can either complete the form sent to you in the mail or find the form here. Marion County Treasurer Michaela Bigaouette says that her office will send out these forms to those on her list.
“Typically my office in the month of February will start mailing these out to people that we have on the list. A lot of people refer to it as the pink sheet because we typically print it on pink paper so it really stands out when you receive it in the mail.”
These forms must be returned to the Marion County Treasurer’s office by June 1st. Hear more from Bigaouette on today’s In Touch with South Central Iowa.
