In the midst of a four-game week of competition, the Pella basketball teams both face arguably their toughest tests of the winter season to date on the road west to Grimes this evening.
Both Pella’s boys and girls are making up a twin bill previously rescheduled from the middle of a brutal series of winter storms in January. The Dutch girls, still ranked 13th in this week’s Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union poll, are set to take on the defending champions and top-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes. Pella held a late lead the last time they were in Meadows Gymnasium last year, only to give up a big run in what was probably the closest call for the eventual 4A title holding Mustangs.
Meanwhile, the Pella boys are entering their toughest three-game stretch of the entire year, starting with a DCG boys team that just dominated #10 in 4A Norwalk Tuesday. The Dutch are aiming for an upset of the Mustangs ahead of a rematch with #7 in 2A Pella Christian Friday and a road trip to the Warriors Monday.
Coverage of tonight’s doubleheader in Grimes begins at 6 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS.
