The Knoxville Basketball Squads swept Davis County on Friday in one of the most bizarre nights of basketball in recent memory. The girls, after building a big lead, held on for a 58-47 win while the boys won 72-65, both games were live on 95.3 KNIA. The girls built a lead as high as 20 points before allowing Davis County back into the game but free throws down the stretch made by Knoxville iced the game. Hannah Dunkin scored a career high 32 points and made all ten of her free throw attempts, eight in the 4th quarter. The boys game was a weird, wild, and utterly defying reality night as jump stops and spin moves were called traveling, but the boys were able to fight through and get the win. Knoxville took control in the second quarter and led 45-30, but Davis County was able to cut the lead to single digits with 2:00 left. Following a 10:00 stoppage when a disagreement between the scorebooks changed the score from 69-0 Knoxville, to at one point had the Panthers up 65-60, then finally 67-60, Knoxville salted the game away. Coach Troy Pearson told KNIA/KRLS it was a strange night, and it was tough getting a rhythm with all of the tough calls.
Pearson: “I was making substitutions and trying to find a rhythm. We couldn’t string together two possessions in a row sometimes and it was just a weird night.”
Landen Norris scored 24 points to lead Knoxville while Carson Uitermarkt scored 12 points on four three point makes. The Knoxville girls are 9-7 and 9-3 in the South Central Conference while the boys are 10-5 and also 9-3 in conference play. Both Panthers have a quick turnaround today at Wells Fargo Arena against Newton. Live coverage is on 95.3 KNIA at 12:15.
