Three wrestlers from Marion and Warren Counties found the podium at the second ever state girls wrestling meet in Coralville.
Emmalee Spurgeon of Pella highlighted the two-day event, placing 4th at 155 pounds. Teammate Elaine Babcock placed 7th at 190, ending her senior season with a victory. The duo joined the new wrestling program at the school as juniors having never competed on the mat, and both finish as the first to place at the state meet for the Dutch girls program.
Siera Becker of Indianola had to compete against four of the top eight wrestlers Friday at 100 pounds to earn 5th place in her freshman season.
Earlier in the day, Madilyn Rowson of Pleasantville closed out her stellar two-year career, falling in the 155 pound weight division consolation bracket.
