Kicking off the final week of the regular season Monday night, the Pella Christian girls basketball team overcame a slow start to upset Class 3A #13 ranked Chariton 66-60 in a game heard live on the KRLS2 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.
It was a rough start for the Eagles as they fell behind 18-2 at the 3:15 mark of the first quarter. Pella Christian began to claw their way back within striking distance after that point, cutting the deficit to 24-14 at the end of the period. The Eagles continued to build on that momentum, outscoring Chariton 21-9 in the second quarter to take a 35-33 advantage at the break. Out of halftime, Pella Christian kept their foot on the gas and held on to pick up the six-point upset win. Sisters Faith and Rachel Kacmarynski combined for 38 points for the Eagle girls in the win, with Faith leading the way with 21 points and Rachel recording 17. Chloe Snyder also reached double-figures with 11 points, as the Pella Christian girls improved to 8-11 overall.
The Eagle girls will look to build on the upset win tonight in the front half of a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader at Dallas Center-Grimes. Coverage of Pella Christian’s doubleheader at DCG can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with pregame coverage at 6 pm.
