The City of Knoxville accepted a bid and awarded a contract for the Street Improvement Project at their meeting Monday night.

The council accepted a bid from Sternquist Construction Inc. for just over $3 Million for the project. The council received five bids and Sternquist was the low bid. The project will involve Main Street between 1st and 2nd St. and 3rd St. to 5th St., and on Robinson Street from S 3rd St. to S 7th St. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says the city will now be able to work with the contractor on getting dates set to start construction.

“The next steps now that the contract has been awarded is to move forward to pre construction meetings with the contractor and getting dates set for when they will start construction. At that time the city staff is able to have conversation and communication with business owners that will be affected throughout this project and keep them in the know of progress.”
