The Indianola City Council approved the city-wide cleanup projects for both the fall and spring seasons at their meeting Monday, but with it came a surcharge cost increase in recycling pickup. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the rise in cost of the project necessitated the increase, but the overwhelming feedback from residents was to keep the program around.

“We explored different options, and overwhelmingly the community supports and wants to maintain this cleanup. Not only the fall cleanup where you bring your materials to the brush facility, but more importantly the spring cleanup where we come to your curbside and pick those items up. That comes with a cost, and we tried to find the best way forward, and ultimately decided to put a small 75 cent surcharge on our recycling in order to afford it and perpetuate the program going forward.”
