The Indianola and Pella Christian basketball teams look to close out the Little Hawkeye Conference season tonight in a doubleheader at Indianola High School, with the Indianola girls and PC boys looking for a season sweep over their counterparts.
The Indianola girls shot 15/17 from the free throw line in the first matchup as they would win 54-45, while the Eagles will look to improve upon their 6/26 shooting from the three-point line. Head coach Brendan Foughty said his team has one more chance to improve in a game before postseason begins.
“Every time we take the floor as a team, I think it’s crucial that we have a good day. My perspective is we need to be getting better every single opportunity we have on the floor and that’s just the mindset. We just were just trying to get a little bit better every single day and I think you’ve seen that and we got to keep doing it.”
The Eagles boys held Indianola to just 15 second half points in the first matchup to win 64-42 despite just a five-point difference at halftime. Indianola shot below 35% from the field in the first matchup, and will aim to build off of their impressive performance against Pella on Tuesday where the Indians nearly upset the Dutch. Head coach Jeff Ebling said the team continues to grow and learn from their mistakes, and these last few games of the regular season will be a good opportunity to continue to get better.
“This is one where what can we learn from it, and hopefully we come out and compete as hard as we did on Tuesday. We just have to learn how to win. It’s going to take some time, but we are seeing progression in the correct direction.”
The games will be broadcast live on 94.3 KNIA and the Indianola Activities YouTube stream, with Andrew Swadner and Wynne Veenstra on the call. Pregame coverage begins at 5:45pm, with tip-off at 6:15.
