The Knoxville City Council approved a speed limit reduction on Attica Road at their meeting Monday night.
This speed limit reduction stems from the increased number of accidents over the last several months at Attica Road and Main Street. Six accidents have occurred at that intersection over the last twelve months, prompting the city to install a flashing stop sign, but the council ultimately agreed that more precautions needed to be in place. The speed limit reduction on Attica Road will start at Washington Street and at a previous meeting the council also approved the installation of an overhead flashing beacon at the intersection. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery hopes these changes will increase the overall safety at this intersection.
“We are hopeful that all of the adjustments that our street department has made for visibility, the speed limit changes, as well as the flashing beacon can heavily increase the safety at that intersection.”
The speed limit reduction will be from 35 mph to 25 mph.
