The Pella Christian girls basketball team used a big first half to power past Indianola 44-38 Thursday night and the Eagle boys completed the sweep with a 67-54 victory over the Indians, and both games were broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS and 94.3 KNIA.

The first half of the girls game was all Pella Christian, as they built up leads of 18-6 at the end of the first quarter and 33-9 at halftime. The script flipped in the second half, with Indianola outscoring the Eagles 14-3 in the third quarter to pull within 36-23. The Indians continued to chip away at the deficit, getting as close as six with just under a minute remaining, but Pella Christian held on for the victory. Faith and Rachel Kacmarynski led the scoring effort for the Eagles with 11 and 10 points respectively. Indianola put three girls in double figures in the loss, with Alexa Guyer scoring 13, Brynn Bishop posting 12, and Zoey Belt adding 11. The Pella Christian girls improved to 9-12 overall and 4-8 in the conference, while Indianola dropped to 5-16 overall and 5-7 in the LHC.

In the nightcap of the doubleheader, the Class 2A #5 Eagles grabbed a 7-4 lead two minutes into the game and never looked back. Pella Christian ended the quarter on a 15-5 run to take a 22-9 lead into the second quarter. Indianola continued to hang around, cutting the deficit to 34-22 at halftime. The margin would sit around the ten point mark throughout the second half, but the Eagles held off the Indians for the 13 point victory. Pella Christian had three players reach double figure scoring with Tysen De Vries recording 23, Dane Geetings posting 19 and Josiah Vos adding 12. George Blake was the Indians’ top scorer with 21 points, while Jack Bingaman added 10 off the bench. The Eagle boys improved to 16-5 overall and 8-4 in the LHC, while the Indianola boys fell to 1-17 overall and 1-11 in the league.

The Indianola boys are back in action for a 7 pm game at Des Moines Christian tonight, while the Indians’ girls squad is off until hosting DM Hoover in the first round of the Class 4A Regionals on Wednesday.

The Pella Christian girls return to the court Saturday night for their Class 2A first round regional game against Cardinal, while the Eagle boys are off until next Thursday when they begin district play.
