It is district wrestling around the state today and two teams are competing to get as many wrestlers as they can to the State Meet next week. Knoxville and PCM will travel all the way out to Atlantic today for the class 2A district with hopes of getting to Wells Fargo Arena next week. For the Panthers, Daniel Gorskikh is the favorite to get through in the 170 pound class. After that Coach Skylar Spaur hopes to equal the amount last season, which was five that punched tickets.
Spaur: “All the kids if they win a match or two we could take them all, or we could take none. I know if we were going to another district we could get all of them, but we’re going to a top quality district with a lot of good guys.”
Meanwhile, The PCM wrestling squad will compete and the Mustangs are coming off a 2nd place finish at the ADM Tiger Invitational last Saturday where Kaliber Fry, Tucker Wheeler, Hewitt Brinegar, and Sawyer Bouwkap all had 1st place finishes. PCM sophomore Tucker Wheeler was the Mustangs lone state qualifier last season and he will look for his 2nd straight trip to Wells Fargo arena after an impressive regular season finishing 43-3 overall.
