The Melcher-Dallas Girls basketball Squad look to continue its run in the class 1A regional with a meeting with Sigourney tonight at Southeast Warren High School. Both teams had easy wins over lesser 1st round opponents with the Saints blasting Moulton-Udell 68-20 last Thursday while Sigourney hammered Pekin 70-37. Coach Kelsey Goff tells KNIA Sports it may come down to which team can play best on the defensive end of the court.
Goff: “They are one of the better quality team we will play. I think defense is what it’s going to come down to is to hold them down and try to get the win.”
Sigourney won the South Iowa Cedar League East Division and had a relatively balanced scoring attack. Both teams are also on long winning streaks with Melcher-Dallas on a ten game tear, and Sigourney on a 12 game winning streak and both have not lost since December. Tip off is set for 7:00, the winner travels to Martensdale-St. Mary’s on Friday.
