New homes continue to go up in Knoxville’s new Veteran’s District.

The Veterans District, better known as the former site of the Knoxville VA Campus, has continued to see consistent progress in its development since the demolition of the VA Campus in the spring of 2022. In phase one of the Veterans Park project, there have been 34 housing lots approved and made available for purchase. As of now, 11 of the 34 lots have been sold and nine homes are currently under construction. One of the homes was purchased by a local family and the other ten lots were bought by companies Sage Homes and Origin Homes.

Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch, City Manager Heather Ussery, Economic Development Director Glenn Lyons, and the Knoxville City Council continue to make developments and progress in the Veterans District a priority to bring more housing to the Knoxville community. Lyons says with the growing population of Knoxville, there are now those lots available to build homes that the city didn’t have before due to the new Veteran’s District.

“Our biggest problem in growing population was the fact that we didn’t have any lots to build housing on and now we have more land for housing than we can absorb quickly so that’s great. What we’re seeing is pent-up demand. Out of the 34 lots we have 11 sold and we’re probably talking about another 10-15 in 2024”
