The PCM boys basketball team defeated Ogden on the road Monday night in the opening round of Class 2A regional play, a game heard live on the KRLS3 stream.

The Mustangs trailed the Bulldogs 8-7 at the end of the first quarter, and the offense didn’t pick up much for either team as PCM held a slight 20-18 advantage at the half. The Mustangs offense exploded for 27 points in the third quarter as they went into the final quarter of the game with a 47-31 advantage. PCM held on after strong offensive performance from Ogden in the final quarter to secure the 61-49 win. The Mustangs were led in scoring by junior Gavin Van Gorp who had 15 points. PCM also picked up a crucial 17 points off their bench largely in part to a ten point night from sophomore Gavin Steenhoek. PCM Coach Tony Ford talked about what it meant to him to pick up his first postseason win as first year head coach for the Mustangs.

“It means everything to me. We got to ten wins tonight. That nine was hanging over our head for the last four games and it kind of bugged me because I know this group is way better than what their record is. It showed the strength of our schedule got us ready for something like this.”

The Mustangs will now travel to Des Moines on Thursday to take on the Des Moines Christian Lions in the Class 2A Region 7 semi final game.
