A large senior class that journeyed their way to back-to-back state semifinals appearances the past two winter seasons will have a chance to at least start the journey back to Wells Fargo Arena as the district basketball playoffs start tonight on Eagle Lane.

The #5 in 2A Eagles welcome Albia to the Tulip City in what the team hopes is just the first step toward chasing a long-elusive state championship for the Pella Christian basketball program. The Eagles last won it all in 1993–their third title in four seasons, and have made 17 all-time appearances, all coming in the last 34 years.

The Blue Demons (13-8 overall, 4th in the South Central Conference) won their way to this match up over conference archrival Centerville on Monday in a 54-40 contest, which was the fifth victory in a row for the blue and red.

Pella Christian (16-5 overall, 3rd in the Little Hawkeye Conference) has only lost to one Class 2A opponent this winter — Des Moines Christian in December, and own an 11-5 series record against Albia in the Bound/Quikstats era. The teams last played each other in the regular season on November 30th, 2021.

Coverage of the district semifinals matchup on Eagle Lane begins on 92.1 KRLS and the Pella Christian YouTube channel at 6:30 this evening.
