indianola-8

The Indianola girls basketball advanced to the class 4A regional semifinals with a defeat of Des Moines Hoover 61-19 Wednesday evening as heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Indians got ahead and stayed ahead against the shorthanded Huskies, who only had five players dressed for the contest. Indianola hit multiple shots from long range throughout the first half, leading 24-3 after the first and 40-13 at halftime. The Indians kept the Huskies scoreless in the third to lead 58-13, and emptied out the bench in the fourth. Head coach Jeff Janssen tells KNIA Sports it was fun to see everyone be able to get into the game and contribute.

“That’s huge. We haven’t been in those situations enough this year, especially with a lead and getting them in late. So rewarding, so fulfilling to see the girls having fun. And to see the girls who get regular minutes cheering them on says a lot about the girls and a lot about our camaraderie.”

Madi Grover scored 19 to lead the team, while Brynn Bishop had 10. The Indians advance to the regional semifinals where they will travel to Alleman to take on #3 North Polk.
