team-6

The Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad had a much tougher than bargained for win over Perry Wednesday night in the first round of the class 4A regional 65-50 heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The Jayettes stayed with the Panthers throughout the game until an 8-0 run in the 4th quarter put the game away. Knoxville had the lead as high as 20 at one point in the 2nd half before Perry trimmed it to eight. Panthers Coach Matt Ritchhart told KNIA/KRLS Sports he was disappointed in the defense and knows that needs to improve by Saturday.

Ritchhart: “Part of it was our defense wasn’t very good in our man, and when we played zone they made shots and we weren’t running to the way it was taught and credit to them, they made shots and we need to get better.”

Brittany Bacorn and Hannah Dunkin outscored a balanced Perry attack with Bacorn leading with 23 points and Dunkin hitting on 22. Iselyn Prevo was big as she nailed three-three point shots for nine points on the night. Knoxville is now 11-10 on the season and will travel to class 4A #1 and defending state champion Dallas Center-Grimes on Saturday.
