The Indianola School Board reviewed a preliminary proposal for the property tax rate that will be set this spring, which for now is projected to be $17.9 per thousand assessed valuation, a two-cent increase from last year’s levy. Superintendent Ted Ihns tells KNIA News the district has to put together a preliminary tax rate and try to keep it consistent, but they won’t know for sure until the legislature sets the education budget items.
“What we try to do as always is to keep that tax rate the same or try to lower it along the line at some time along the line, and a lot of that has to do with the Supplemental State Aid when that comes in from the state. We put a proposal together, real brief based on historical data, what our needs, our revenue and expenditures are. Just put that out there to start with. If the SSA comes in before that, that could adjust but usually that $17.94 is usually where we will land, somewhere in that area.”
