Day three of the 2024 Iowa High School Boys State Wrestling Tournament wrapped up on Friday.
In the Class 2A semifinals, Knoxville’s Daniel Gorskikh fell in a 10-3 decision to Roland-Story’s Hesston Johnson and dropped down into the consolation semifinals. PCM’s Tucker Wheeler also fell in the semifinals to Anders Kittelson of Osage by a pinfall at 2:28 and will compete Saturday in the consolation semifinals.
In Class 3A, Norwalk’s Tyler Harper needed just 1:25 to record a pinfall victory over Isaac Wignall of Ankeny in the semifinals and advanced to the 113 pound State Championship match. Harper, who fell in the Championship match a year ago, said it was a great feeling to get back there this year, but acknowledged the job isn’t finished yet.
“It means a lot, but I just got to stay focused on tomorrow night and last year I got too caught up after this match, so I’m going to settle some things down and just be ready for whatever comes out tomorrow.”
Also competing in the semifinals, Indianola’s Dax Clatt fell in a 6-1 decision against Damarion Ross of Fort Dodge and will compete in the consolation semifinals today. Joining Clatt in the consolation semifinals will be teammates Mac Crosson and Jaxson Boyd and Pella’s Jackson Van Kley. Indianola’s Jake Pontier will compete in the seventh place match at 150 pounds.
In Class 1A, all five wrestlers remaining from the KNIA/KRLS listening area advanced to Saturday. Pleasantville’s Carter Metcalf won both of his matches Friday to reach the consolation semifinals. Pleasantville’s Tommy Booth, Caleb Cook, and Zane Mullenix and Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas’ Brayden Scheffers will also wrestle Saturday in the seventh place matches of their respective weight classes.
Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for updates and interviews from Championship Saturday.
