indianola-8

The season came to an end for the Indianola Boys Basketball team Monday night, as they fell to Des Moines Roosevelt 77-62 in the Class 4A Substate 8 opener heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Roughriders opened the game on a 10-2 run, but the Indians responded with a 15-8 run to end the first quarter to pull within 18-17. Roosevelt pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Indianola 20-6 to grab a 38-23 lead at halftime. Each team scored 39 points in the second half, but Indianola’s season came to a close with the 15-point loss. Indians head coach Jeff Ebling said that one of the biggest differences in the game was Roosevelt’s size, and said his squad will need to continue to work in the weight room in the offseason.

“One thing I told the boys is that one thing that I noticed between Des Moines Roosevelt and us is obviously the size of their players. They’ve obviously hit the weight room extremely hard and we’ve got to continue to make sure we do that and keep progressing. I mean we lift four times a week during the season and, you know, these guys do a great job and we just gonna continue that. We’re all gonna be a year older and, you know, these guys have gone through some tough times but sometimes they can also be beneficial moving forward in the future.”

The Indianola boys end the season with a 2-20 overall record, and graduate three seniors in Jack Bingaman, Ben Hoffman, and Spencer Hughes.
