Local school districts are working on their budget proposals that will go out to the public soon, and a major impact on those budgets are the amount of State Supplemental Aid given to districts by the Iowa Legislature. State Representative Brooke Boden tells KNIA News the Iowa House submitted a 3% increase and is waiting on negotiations with the Senate to come up with a clear number. Boden also said an issue the legislature is currently working on is when school starts next year so they can avoid scheduling conflicts.

“One of the other things that has been discussed majorly is a start date for next year because it falls on a Friday. That’s a continued conversation, making sure our schools can get back to school but that we don’t interrupt the State Fair. So a lot of discussions still going on.”
