The demolition of the former Knoxville Middle School building progressed on Tuesday as the gym was torn down.

This is a demolition project that officially kicked off on January 8th, and Midwest Demolition Contractors continues to tear down the building. The goal for the Knoxville Community School District and the City of Knoxville is to continue collaborating on an agreement that would make the site the home for a new Public Safety/City Hall facility. Knoxville Community School District Business Manager Craig Mobley says there are bricks available from the demolition.

“The contractor has agreed to salvage some bricks from the building if anyone is interested in one. They will put those on the outside of the fence, so as soon as that happens we will put some communication or an announcement out and let everyone know where those are at, so if anyone is interested in a brick they can go get one of those.”

The demolition is scheduled to be completed by April 1st, according to the contract.
