For the second consecutive season, the Pella girls basketball team’s journey ended in the Regional Finals, as the #14 in 4A Dutch fell to #4 Dallas Center-Grimes 58-45, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS Tuesday.
Despite an early lead, the defending champions were too much for Pella to handle, as a 12-0 run in the first quarter gave the home team Mustangs all of the margin they needed. DCG would go on to largely dominate the festivities, building to a 21-point lead in the 4th quarter. The Dutch would run that advantage down to nine points before the game ended, but ran out of time to mount a massive comeback.
Head Coach Blaine Forsythe was thankful for the effort regardless of the result, on a night where his team’s offense never quite clicked.
“Credit to DCG for a great basketball game and game plan. I am proud of the fight our players had for all 32 minutes. We had a difficult time scoring the basketball against their zone and couldn’t get our offense going. There were multiple times we could have called it a game and our players continued to battle. It says a lot about the character of our players of how they continued to push. This is a group that believed in themselves and each other. I can’t thank our seniors enough for setting the tone and elevating our level of player throughout the season. ”
Sophia Reynolds scored 10 points and Abby Warner had nine to lead the Dutch. Pella finishes the season 16-7 and says farewell to six seniors.
