An update was given regarding Block A of the Veterans District at the Knoxville City Council Meeting Monday night.
Block A in the Veterans District is the area south of West Pleasant St. that consists of approximately six acres of land currently owned by Marion County, but with the current 28E agreement in place, that land will be deeded over to the city once the community is ready to develop that land. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says the city has been talking to several different developers for the area with a focus on senior housing due to the need in the community.
“The developers we’ve been speaking to, there are a couple that we have been speaking to in regards to senior housing which is much needed for Knoxville. Our 2016 housing needs assessment showed that we need approximately 300 units of senior housing and since that time no additional units have been built. There is a high demand here in Knoxville for senior housing.”
