The Knoxville Salvation Army Center has re-opened after strong 2023 red kettle donations.

The red kettles in Knoxville were placed outside of Wal-Mart and Fareway during the holiday season and raised $29,470 last year. With the funds raised, the Salvation Army center in Knoxville will now be open two days a week at 308 E Robinson St. The Salvation Army Center in Knoxville helps financially support individuals in the community who are struggling to pay bills. The center will help finish bills by paying the money directly out to the company where the bill is due. The Salvation Army also helps the Knoxville Police Department by providing gas cards and hotel rooms for individuals trying to escape a domestic violence situation.

All money raised from the red kettles stay in the community and everyone at the center is a volunteer. Pastor Brent Hanna, who oversees the Salvation Army in Knoxville, says he is grateful for the generous support that will allow the center to re-open.

“We are excited to be able to re-open. We are excited that we have so many generous people in Marion County donating both time and money either at Wal-Mart or Fareway. We are excited to just thank everyone for helping us. Those nickels, pennies, dimes, quarters, and dollars out of the pocket add up really nice.”

The center is open from 1:00-3:00 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. Hear more from Hanna on today’s Let’s Talk Knoxville.
