A homeless man was arrested earlier this week in Knoxville on twelve charges related to a domestic incident, burglary, and drug possession.
On Tuesday, February 6th, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a call for a domestic incident. While at the residence, an officer allegedly saw a pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine. A search warrant was applied for by a Mid Iowa Narcotics Enforcement (MINE) detective and was granted. During a subsequent search, law enforcement located small plastic baggies that contained a white powdery substance and an opaque crystalline substance that field tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamine.
On Tuesday, February 14 at approximately 3:45 am, Knoxville police officers were again called to that residence for a separate domestic incident. Officers made contact with the victim inside the garage of the residence. Through investigation, officers learned that 44-year old Dustin Boomershine had been at the residence and fled prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
Officers learned that Dustin was allegedly in the garage of the residence when the victim entered the home, and attempted to force entry inside. The victim had to forcibly hold the garage door shut to prevent Dustin from entering. Court records indicated in his attempt to gain entry, Boomershine is accused of knocking over and breaking a shelf valued between $80-$100 dollars. Dustin gave up his attempt to enter the residence and is accused of stealing $110 in cash from the victim’s purse as well as a $50 winning scratch-off lottery ticket. Dustin also allegedly stole a security system monitor valued at $100. The victim informed the officers that Dustin had been evicted from the property, after living there the past 2 years.
Boomershine is charged with a Class C felony for second degree burglary, three Class D felonies for possession of a controlled substance – third or subsequent offense, and eight misdemeanors.
