The Pleasantville boys wrestling team concluded an impressive 2023-2024 season last weekend as excitement surrounds the future of the program.

The Trojans had four wrestlers qualify for the 2024 Iowa State Wrestling Tournament and all four of the qualifiers finished on the podium at the state meet. Senior Caleb Cook, freshman Zane Mullenix, and sophomore Tommy Booth all finished their season with 8th place finishes at the state meet while senior Carter Metcalf finished fourth. Pleasantville wrestling coach Heath DeForest tells KNIA/KRLS radio that freshman Zane Mullenix was the first freshman for the Trojans to place at the state meet. Pleasantville finished the regular season 21-4 in dual meets and DeForest says that despite losing a strong senior class, he is excited for the future of the program.

“I just look forward to seeing what the future holds. We lose a strong senior class but I’m very confident in what we have in our room and what we have coming. Our room is a tough room right now. I hope to see continued success. I really think it can happen, and we will continue to work toward that, and see what happens next year.”

Both Cook and Booth were previous state qualifiers for the Trojans. Pleasantville’s only dual loss to a 1A team this season came to Alburnett in regionals.
