Record high temperatures both locally and statewide should be broken as a rare 70 degree February day is in the forecast for many on Monday. According to the National Weather Service, most thermometers in Marion and Warren Counties will approach–and possibly top the 70 degree mark in the afternoon. The previous record for February 26th in Knoxville is 68 degrees set in 1896 and at the Des Moines International Airport at 65 in 1988. A major temperature swing is on the horizon, as highs in the low-to-mid 60s on Tuesday afternoon will drop by nearly 40 to 50 degrees by early morning Wednesday; that transition may come with some wintry precipitation, but no specific details are available as to what, when, and where that could occur. Temperatures are expected to quickly rebound back into the 50s by Thursday and near 70 again by next weekend.
