The candidate filing period for the 2024 primary elections opens on Monday.
This year the positions that will be voted upon locally will be two board of supervisors seats, county auditor, county sheriff, and filling an open vacancy for county attorney. The filing period for these positions will start Monday, March 4th and last until Friday, March 22nd aside from township trustees, which has a filing period that starts on August 5th. The Marion County Auditor’s Office is the filing officer for these positions. All of these positions require a total of 75 signatures. Marion County Auditor Jake Grandia said that the primary elections are an important part of local government.
“It is important. This is our local government. This is the people we see around all the time at all three levels, county, state, and federal. I would encourage everyone to take full advantage of participating in the primary election. We always know we are going to have a big turn out in the fall. The general election always has 80% plus. I think this is a very important process as well before we get to that next step.”
