A record high was shattered locally, and additional marks are available before a sudden drop in temperature late tonight.

According to the National Weather Service, the afternoon high was 75 in Knoxville, breaking the previous mark of 68 set in 1896 for February 26th. Another record is possible today, as the February 27th warmest mark was 71, set in 1976.

However, a dramatic cooldown is expected starting late this evening through Wednesday morning, as low temperatures for the morning commute are expected to dip below 20 degrees. Some wintry precipitation is in the forecast, but no major accumulations are in the forecast. From there, a warming bounce back is in the long-term forecast, as high temperatures will increase 10-15 degrees daily from Wednesday afternoon through Saturday.
