Several area students advanced to the Iowa High School Speech Association State Contest which will be held on Saturday, March 9th.
Competing at Montezuma, Pella High School had 38 students advance to the State Contest with Division I scores, out of 45 total entries. The Pella Christian High School speech team had 15 students out of their 17 total entries advance with Division I ratings. The Pleasantville speech team will also send a large contingent of students to the State Contest, as 23 of their 31 entries received Division I scores on Saturday. Twin Cedars’ Kadyn Boyd and Melcher-Dallas’ Izzy Carter also advanced to the State Contest in storytelling and poetry.
At East Union High School, Norwalk had 10 students qualify for the State contest out of their 20 entries. Southeast Warren had eight individuals advance from their 12 entries, while Carlisle had 6 of their 11 individual entries advance to the State competition. Martensdale St. Mary’s had one entry in Saturday’s contest in Aubrey Moser, who qualified for State in solo musical theatre. At South Tama High School, the PCM speech team advanced eight of their thirteen entries to the State Contest. Find a full list of individuals that qualified for the State Contest here.
Those that advanced to the Iowa High School Speech Association State Contest from Pella, Pella Christian, PCM, Pleasantville, Twin Cedars, and Melcher-Dallas will compete March 9th at Cedar Rapids Xavier High School. Students from Norwalk, Southeast Warren, Carlisle, and Martensdale St. Mary’s that advanced to the State Contest will perform at ADM High School in Adel on March 9th.
