It should come as no surprise to many who enjoyed a burst of spring across south central Iowa last month that February was the warmest on record with the National Weather Service. State Climatologist Justin Glisan says the month included close to the warmest temperature ever in the month for the state and tied the high mark in Des Moines at 78 earlier this week. He says the driving factor is an ongoing El Nino in the Pacific that drove dry, warm air over most of the middle of the country. Glisan says indications are for another warm month ahead in March, but increased chances for precipitation will also make their way into the region.
