Bids for the Norwalk Community School District’s parking lot expansion at Orchard Hills Elementary came back under budget, according to Superintendent Shawn Holloway.

The project is being funded with sales tax, and the estimated cost of the project is around $350,000. Holloway says that while a parking lot may not be the most exciting project, additional parking was necessary to accommodate the growth of the community.

“People will tell me on conference nights and anytime there’s an extra activity at Orchard Hills, that parking is at a premium. And so this is just that. You know, as that building continues to get to capacity, that means additional parking is needed. And this was a project when Orchard Hills was first built and designed that the district knew that in future years they’d have to put extra parking in there.”

The project is expected to be completed in the Summer of 2024. Hear more from Shawn Holloway on an upcoming In Touch with South Central Iowa.
