The Pella Christian Grade School and High School Boards of Trustees announced the merger of the schools into a unified Pella Christian Schools district last week.

A total of 2,095 votes were cast on the proposal and over 90% of the ballots from both grade school and high school society members were in favor of integrating the school boards. While the merger of the school boards has been approved by both societies, more work remains to be done before it becomes official. Pella Christian Head of Schools Dan Zylstra says that current board members at both schools will finish out their terms in June, and a mixture of individuals from both will be a part of the unified board. Zylstra also says that while the merger has been approved by the societies, it won’t become official until July.

“Starting July 1st, we’ll have a new single board that will take over, and they are members of the current high school and grade school board, a mixture of them that will form a unified board. It’s also noteworthy too, this has been approved by the societies, but there’s paperwork and filings that have to happen. So, the entities won’t be legally unified until July 1st. So as you mentioned, it hasn’t happened yet, but it’s been approved, so it is happening.”
