The unemployment rate increased slightly in January, according to the latest data from Iowa Workforce Development.

The unemployment rate in Marion County increased from 2.3% in December to 2.7% in January. There are 18,820 residents employed and 520 seeking work and receiving benefits.

The rate also went up in Warren County, going from 2.3% in December to 3.3% in January. There are 28,600 employed residents and 1,000 individuals seeking work and receiving benefits.

Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped from 3.2% in December to 3.0% in January, but was up from the state’s jobless rate of 2.9% one year ago. The January national unemployment rate remained at 3.7%.
