With 47 athletes on the roster this season, the Pella Christian track and field team will feature their biggest coaching staff during head coach Keith Anderson’s tenure with the program.
Matt Groenendyk returns to the Eagles staff to help coach the throwing events, while three new coaches will join the team. After a couple years away from the track, Valerie Keegan is returning to the team to help with the distance runners, while Kristin Volk is moving up from the junior high team to work with Pella Christian’s jumpers. Also joining the Eagles staff is Eric Pingel who will work with the team’s sprinters and hurdlers. Anderson says that he’s grateful to have great assistant coaches that will help the program build on the success of prior years.
“Having a great staff around you does wonders for myself and for the athletes. I remember when I started back years ago, I was solo and I was doing everything, but now I’ve got four solid assistant coaches. So, it’s just great to have that knowledge, to have some extra eyes and ears that can help me out, and it frees me up a little bit to kind of go around and maybe get to some areas and some different events that I haven’t been able to in previous years.”
The Pella Christian track and field teams kick off the 2024 season on Tuesday, March 26th, with the boys hosting their Early Bird Meet and the girls running at Davis County.
