The Marion County Treasurer’s Office is reminding residents of the approaching property tax deadline on April 1st.

Property tax statements only get sent out in August each year and that statement has two payment stubs, one for September, and one for the payment that is due the following March. September and March installments are the same bill and the state splits it into two payments. Normally, property taxes are due March 31st, but they are due April 1st this year due to the last day of March falling on a weekend. To pay these taxes, you can do so online through the county website, through the mail, in the courthouse drop box, over the phone, or at the treasurer’s office. Marion County Treasurer Michaela Bigaouette encourages everyone in the county to pay on time to avoid late penalties.

“We don’t like to see people have to pay a penalty. We pay enough for property tax so we want to encourage and help folks to get those payments in time. If you do not make it by April 1st there is a 1.5% per month penalty that is assessed each month after the due date.”
