The Southeast Warren Community School District released a statement Sunday regarding a recent incident involving student safety.

Southeast Warren Superintendent Delane Galvin said he received a call late Saturday night from a Warren County Sheriff’s deputy regarding the matter. According to the information provided by the deputy, it appeared that a high school student engaged with an individual from Rockford, Illinois during an online gaming session. The interaction took a concerning turn, as the Rockford individual made threatening statements towards the student, the student’s family and Southeast Warren High School. Additionally, the individual allegedly posted photos of what appeared to be an assault rifle.

Galvin also said in the statement that the district is actively working with local law enforcement to investigate the matter further and says that their primary concern is the safety and well-being of students and staff.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that they do not consider it a credible threat, and do not believe there is an imminent danger. While the belief is that there is no immediate danger, the district encourages everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or concerns immediately.
