The Indianola City Council reviewed a preliminary proposal for the FY25 budget at their meeting Monday, going over priorities for the city moving forward. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News staff changes and new laws from the legislature made putting together the budget a little more difficult than in years past.
“It’s been a challenging year for us trying to figure out the budget. Mostly because our exceptional finance director took an opportunity with the City of Altoona, and so consequently as city staff we’ve been trying to maneuver and work with the tools that we have, making sure we have the needs of the city covered and that we can take care of them in the future. Of course that is challenging with House File 718 which has created some extra restrictions on cities with regard to the revenue that we can collect based on our growth. So we are trying to do everything we can to meet the needs of the city in the most responsible way possible.”
