The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is working to connect Iowans with locally grown produce and food products, while expanding markets for Iowa farmers.
At the State Fair last year, Choose Iowa was launched at the state’s signature brand for Iowa grown, raised and made products. The program builds on the growing demand for local food, beverages and ag products, creates new markets for Iowa farmers, and provides consumers with more choices. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says the growing trend for locally grown products helped with the decision to create this initiative.
“We’ve got consumers that are increasingly looking for local foods and there’s many reasons for that. It’s a growing trend, you can certainly think back to the supply chain disruptions from COVID and people thinking about where my food comes from, and of course now with the cost of food and inflation. It’s just got people, which I think is good, thinking about where do things come from that I need.”
