The Indianola girls soccer team defeated Knoxville in their season opening contest Monday evening at Indianola stadium 8-1 as both teams braved cold and windy conditions. The Indians scored in the 9th minute to get the offense rolling after Rylee Burns found the back of the net, followed by a Lauren Burk goal and a Remy Sivertsen goal to put Indianola up 3-0 going into halftime. Sivertsen scored again quickly in the second half, but Knoxville would answer for their first goal of the season in the 34th minute from Janae Baker to make it 4-1.

The game would be all Indians from that point, as Burns and Burk both scored again, Isabelle Crookes scored, and Burns scored again late to earn a hat trick. Indianola head coach Erin Ebling said after the game she felt the team started to gel on offense over the course of the contest, and still have things to work on but this was a great start to the season.

Indianola improves to 1-0 and next plays on Thursday hosting Southeast Polk, while the Panthers are 0-1 and host Carlisle on Thursday.
