The Pella School Board reviewed the upcoming fiscal year budget at their meeting Monday. A public hearing was held for the proposed tax rate, which is set to be steady for the fifth consecutive fiscal year at $14.60 per $1,000 of valuation. Several questions were raised following new legislation that directly shares proposed tax levy changes to voters by mail. A certified budget presentation was also given ahead of official consideration on April 8th. The board approved of the budget guarantee resolution, which allows the district to levy general fund uses for one year after declining enrollment. The agenda also included approval of a new Pella Middle School baseball team, sharing agreements with Knoxville, Pleasantville, Lynnville-Sully, and North Mahaska, and policy changes suggested by the Iowa Association of School Boards. The Pella School Board also received an update about ongoing construction.
