This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week, a week highlighted each year as a reminder to prepare and stay informed about the unpredictable forces of nature.

Each day of the week focuses on a different area to prepare for, with today being tornado awareness. Warren County Emergency Management Coordinator Troy Bass tells KNIA News Iowa is now at a threat to have a tornado or derecho year round, and the safety steps include finding a secure room in the middle of your home or basement, stay away from glass doors or windows, and to have a plan for your yourself and family in the event of an emergency.

The annual statewide tornado drill is tomorrow at 10am, with KNIA/KRLS Radio hosting interviews with local first responders, meteorologists, and emergency management coordinators.
