This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week, a week highlighted each year as a reminder to prepare and stay informed about the unpredictable forces of nature. Today focuses on emergency preparedness.

Warren County Emergency Management Coordinator Troy Bass tells KNIA News something people should keep in mind is building an emergency kit in case of a severe weather event.

“An emergency kit such as water, food, a can opener to open cans of food. We like folks to prepare for 72 hours. That gives emergency responders time to get to you, because you won’t be the only ones to have an emergency, everyone will be under that type of situation.”

The annual statewide tornado drill is today at 10am, with KNIA/KRLS Radio hosting interviews with local first responders, meteorologists, and emergency management coordinators.
