Pella Christian Girls Track and Field 2nd at Clarke, Boys Track 8th at Ballard

The Pella Christian girls track and field team opened the season with an overall second place finish at the Dewitt Invite Thursday night, while the boys squad took eighth at the Ballard High School Coed Meet.

En route to their second place finish, the Eagle girls claimed the top spot in six events throughout the night. Individually, Rachel Kacmarynski won the 100 meter dash (12.45) and the long jump (16”11.25”), while Meredith Van Wyk won the 200 meter dash (26.42) and Greta Vos won the 800 meter run (2:45.66). Amaia Agre, Van Wyk, Kacmarynski, and Bailey Vos also brought home first place finishes in the sprint medley relay (1:49.57) and in the 4×400 meter relay (4:11.76).

Trevor Veenstra continued to impress in the throwing events for the Pella Christian boys, winning the discus by over 56 feet (180’ 4”) and the shot put by over 13 feet (57’ 10.50”). Sawyer Meinders added a third place finish in the 1600 meter run (4:53.21) and a fourth place finish in the 3200 meter run (10:29.95). The distance medley relay team of Logan Nunnikhoven, Caleb Volk, Noah Nunnikhoven, Ely Cadwell claimed a third place finish in the meet (4:02.26), while the 4×100 meter relay team of Johnson Morgan, Jude Lubbers, Trevor Veenstra, Tysen De Vries took fourth place (46.56).

Pella Christian Boys Soccer Downs PCM, Girls Soccer Grabs Narrow Victory at Albia

The Pella Christian boys soccer team opened their season with a 4-0 home victory over PCM Thursday night, while the shorthanded Class 1A #15 Eagles girls soccer team pulled out a 1-0 road victory at Albia.

Ethan Van Arendonk got the scoring started for the P.C. boys, finding the back of the net in the 21st minute. Roughly a minute later, Camden Parker gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead after scoring on a Ben Van Wyngarden assist. Caue Bastos added to the Pella Christian lead in the 36th minute, scoring off Nathan Brouwer’s assist. Brouwer also got in on the scoring action, providing the final goal of the night in the 62nd minute.

In Albia, the Eagles defense propelled them to narrow victory, as they limited the Lady Dees to just one shot on goal in the entire game. Pella Christian, playing without two of the leading goal scorers, began applying pressure offensively in the second half with eight of their 12 shots on goal occurring after the break. In the final ten minutes, Claire Winn-Fogle finally broke the scoreless tie, burying her first goal of the season and the Eagles held on for the win. 

The Pella Christian boys soccer squad opens the season at 1-0, and will kick off a three game week on Monday at Albia. The Eagle girls improved to 2-0 on the season and they will look to remain unbeaten Monday with their first home match of the season against Knoxville.
