Rotary International’s continued effort to raise awareness for human trafficking prevention was highlighted Wednesday as U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley answered questions about the issue at the weekly Knoxville Rotary meeting.
The local Rotary group has hosted several events to raise awareness about the topic, and invited the long serving senator to discuss ongoing legislative efforts to reduce the problem. Grassley made himself available for questions and attendees asked about potential legislation to address human trafficking. Knoxville Rotary Club Co-President Jake Hughes says it’s important to hear about the legislative side of ways that human trafficking is being addressed.
“It’s pretty exciting. Rotary is looking at human trafficking on a global scale from all the different clubs that you see all over the world. One of the positions that we don’t get to see a lot on the day to day basis in Marion County is what is being done on the federal level on the day to day basis in the United States. It’s exciting when you see someone like Senator Grassley who has the opportunity and experience to make a very real impact on ending human trafficking at a high level.”
Rotary also continues to fight to end Polio worldwide.
