The Knoxville Soccer Squads will head their separate ways on Monday. The boys, looking for their first win of the season, will host Oskaloosa and play at Randy Wilson Track for the first time this season. The Panthers are coming off of back-to-back losses to start the season. Goalie Carson Cecil has 13 saves in the first two matches this season. Match time is set for 7:00. The girls travel across the river to Eagle Lane to play Pella Christian. The Eagles come in ranked #15 in class 1A preseason poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Panthers have had a difficult start to their season as well going 0-2 against Indianola and Carlisle. Coach Bethany Johnson tells KNIA/KRLS Sports she saw significant improvement from match one to match two on Thursday.
Johnson: I have seen a lot of improvement in the last week from our game on Monday to our game on Thursday and what we’ve done at practice this week. I always find that when I watch the game back I find some other things to work on that I didn’t see beforehand.”
Senior Janae Baker has the only goal for Knoxville this season, which occurred against Indianola. Goalkeeper Ella Breazeale has seen 57 shots on goal and has saved 47 of them, which leads the state regardless of class according to Bound. The girls match is set for 5:30 on Eagle Lane at Pella Christian.
